The Nollywood Easter weekend featured a striking comparison of distribution models as two major releases debuted on April 3: Bimbo Ademoye’s feature film, ‘Mirrors and Reflections’, premiered on her YouTube channel, while Iyabo Ojo’s ‘The Return of Arinzo’ (TROA), distributed by Film One, hit cinemas.

Early earning figures confirmed a significant financial disparity, with the theatrical release, TROA, grossing over N104.8 million in its opening weekend, far surpassing the estimated N1.9 million to N30.2 million earned by the YouTube feature.

The 1-hour-32-minute YouTube drama surpassed 7 million views in its first three days, receiving good ratings for its emotional dept. It stars Ademoye in dual roles as identical twins Ifeoluwa and Ifedayo. It examines themes of identity, family secrets, and redemption. Supporting cast includes Sonia Uche, Clinton Joshua, Osas Ighodaro, Layi Wasabi, and Sunshine Roseman.

SocialBlade data for Bimbo Ademoye TV shows a clear viewership spike tied to the release. Daily video views rose from 178,000 on April 3 to 819,000 on April 4, 2.3 million on April 5, and 2.18 million on April 6. Estimated daily earnings for the channel during this window were as follows: April 3 ($44–$712), April 4 ($205–$3,300), April 5 ($576–$9,200), and April 6 ($545–$8,700).

The four-day total ranges from $1,370 to $21,912. At the prevailing exchange rate of approximately 1,380 NGN per USD in early April 2026, this equates to roughly N1.9 million to N30.2 million.

These figures represent total channel ad revenue during the period; pre-release daily views averaged under 150,000, confirming the film drove the increase.

Viewers on X praised the storytelling and specific details, others countered these points by citing the character’s established photographic memory and the family’s grief-driven denial. One X user wrote: “Mirrors and reflection will get a 7/10. … Bimbo Ademoye is a class actor.” Another questioned the lack of physical distinctions between the twins: “So, because she’s identical twins, there’s no mark or anything at all that can differentiate between Ifeoluwa and Ifedayo?”

In contrast, the cinema release The Return of Arinzo (TROA), distributed by Film One, opened to N104.8 million in its opening weekend. Producer Alice Iyabo Ojo announced the figure on X on April 6, describing it as the highest-grossing Easter weekend performance and the biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. Reactions on the platform were overwhelmingly positive, with users calling the result “huge” and urging audiences to support it.

Direct comparison of earnings in the overlapping early window, Mirrors and Reflections from April 3 to April 6, versus The Return of Arinzo’s opening weekend, shows the theatrical film generated significantly higher revenue.

The Return of Arinzo recorded N104.8 million at the box office, while estimated creator earnings for the YouTube film reached a maximum of N30.2 million. Note that box-office gross reflects total ticket sales before splits among producers, distributors, and cinemas, whereas YouTube earnings reflect the creator’s share of advertising revenue after platform fees.

The cinema release, therefore, produced more money in the measured period. The results highlight differing economics between YouTube premieres and theatrical runs in the Nigerian market.

Mirrors and Reflections continues to accumulate views on YouTube, while The Return of Arinzo benefits from sustained cinema attendance. Both films demonstrate strong audience engagement, but early financial outcomes favour the cinema title.
