This is that season when people will begin to create new resolutions that rarely go beyond the first 2 weeks of a new year. While you may have reasons to focus on regrets and bad decisions you made in 2022, you can use this new year season as an opportunity to always start and sustain something new in your marriage. It can be a reflection and bonding time for you and your spouse.

TRY AND LIST OUT PATTERNS THAT DID NOT SERVE YOU WELL IN 2022

If you both reflect on your communication and conflict resolution styles, you may be forced to realize that there are some mindsets, attitudes and belief systems that are affecting your stability in your marriage. This is not the best time to blame anyone, but it is important to take responsibility for any habits that created friction in your marriage. To effectively achieve mindfulness in your home, you will both need to sit down and list out habits and mindsets that destabilize your union. Examples can be a lack of effective boundaries, not listening, criticism and busyness. When you list out what has been wrong, you should both question how negatively it has impacted your marriage and then draw out the feedback on how to rectify it. When you understand the source and effect of a thing, it makes it easier to become accountable for a new start.

In 2023, you need to double up on spending quality time with your partner. The world is getting more innovative with technology, and you will need to adapt together. Being accountable to yourselves and choosing to meet and connect based on what was done individually during the week can be a mind shift for you. While I know that you would love to highlight all what has gone wrong in 2022, telling your partner what they did well can encourage them to do better. While planning new ideas and reflecting on the year, be deliberate about celebrating and encouraging each other. You can both discuss three to five reasons you appreciate each other. Take time to discuss this and make it impactful. You can exchange gift with yourselves this season and write out sweet endearment words that show you both much you appreciate your partner. Engage this activity with light snacks, physical touch and quality time afterwards. This has a way of setting the tone for a deeper connection between you and your partner.

In all that you do this season, make sure you do not ignore that every new season comes with a new ambiance hence let there be a release of a clear soothing fragrance that this season brings out in the both of you. For some couples, simple renewal of vows happens at the beginning of every year especially when your partner values reassurance of your commitment and presence.
