Canal+ has partnered with Samsung to pre-install the DStv Stream app on new Smart TVs sold in 18 African markets. This partnership, announced on June 22, 2026, builds directly on strategies long employed by global streaming giants like Netflix.
In an official social media post, Canal+ said, “CANAL+ and @Samsung are taking their strategic partnership a step further by expanding it across English and Portuguese-speaking African markets covered by @MultiChoiceGRP. The agreement will bring DStv Stream to Samsung Smart TVs in 18 African countries, further strengthening access to the group’s content and digital services across the continent.”
The integration means that when consumers in countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe unbox a new Samsung TV, the DStv Stream app will already appear on the home screen.
By embedding DStv Stream directly into Samsung devices, the company aims to make its vast library of sports, movies, series, and local African programming easier to reach for millions of households.
Why this matters
This is not just a technical convenience. It represents a strategic pivot for MultiChoice, the parent of DStv, under Canal+’s ownership since 2025. For decades, DStv dominated African pay-TV through satellite dishes and set-top decoders.
But rising data costs, younger audiences preferring mobile and smart devices, and competition from Netflix, Showmax, and free-to-air options forced change.
