Nollywood films led the Nigerian cinema charts for the weekend of May 29-31, underscoring local productions’ strong audience appeal over Hollywood releases. Call of My Life held the top spot for a third weekend, earning N88.6 million. The romantic comedy brought its cumulative total to N396.1 million since its May 15 release, making it one of the highest-grossing films this year so far. It outperformed new entries and holdovers through steady audience turnout.

Ajosepo: The Gathering debuted in second place with N41.3 million for the weekend and a cumulative of N49.1 million. The new local release demonstrated solid opening interest among domestic viewers.

The Boy Who Gave placed fifth, adding N10.2 million to reach a cumulative N53.4 million in its third weekend. It continued to attract audiences despite competition, and Allison Precious Emmanuel, who produced and starred in the lead role, made him one of the youngest Nollywood filmmakers in this space.

Hollywood titles showed mixed results. The Michael Jackson biopic Michael added N33.2 million in its sixth weekend, pushing its total to N691.6 million. It remained a major earner but trailed the top local film. Mortal Kombat 2 took fourth with N15.1 million, bringing its cumulative to N200.9 million after four weekends. Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu earned N8.8 million in its second weekend for a cumulative N27.6 million.

Local films occupied the majority of the top positions, reflecting consistent demand for Nollywood stories. Positions 7 to 10 further highlighted this trend. Efunroye (7th) added N7.6 million to cross N100 million cumulative (N102.6 million total) in its fifth weekend. Okanjuwa (8th) earned N6 million for a cumulative of N26.2 million in week two. Jayeola Monje: The Anniversary (10th) added N5.4 million, reaching N18.9 million cumulative in week two.

Passenger (9th) as the last Hollywood film collected N5.5 million for N16.8 million total in its second weekend. These lower-charted films, mostly local, maintained presence with modest but steady earnings. Overall, the weekend data shows Nollywood’s current strength in holding screens and drawing consistent crowds against international competition.
