ARB hosts intergenerational celebration for Soyinka’s 90th birthday

An intergenerational celebratory program to commemorate the 90th birthday of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka was hosted by the ARB.

The event held on saturday, July 13th, at Freedom Park Lagos, themed #KnowSoyinka, saw a mix of ARB’s established hits and new tracks. Fans were treated to the band’s signature songs with classics like ‘Rescue Me’, ‘Hunger’, and a taste of their unreleased works.

Odenose, the band’s powerhouse vocalist, took center stage with a set of her solo numbers. Tracks like ‘Misschief’, ‘Face Your Own’, and ‘Cold Weather Lover’, showcased her vocal range.

Odenose’s solo debut album, ‘Misschief’, dropped just last year under the Reedamae Records label.

Kaey, another member of ARB, didn’t miss a beat, taking the opportunity to share her latest single, ‘Another Day Another Naira’, among two other unreleased tracks.

The night wasn’t just about established names. ARB’s commitment to nurturing young talent was evident as they introduced two new artists – UC and Young Chris.

The celebration transcended music, offering a chance to learn about the celebrated author. A brief biography enlightened the audience about Wole Soyinka’s life and achievements. The announcement that President Bola Tinubu renamed the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, after Soyinka further underscored his contribution to Nigerian and global culture.

The evening culminated in the performance of ARB’s newest single, ‘Guy’. This high-octane Afrobeats track combined Dr. T, the band’s leader’s, signature rap verses with Kaey’s soulful hooks.
