Jollof Dairy, a provider of information and data for the African entertainment industry, recently unveiled its inaugural music report for the first half of 2024. This report revealed that 544 records captivated Nigerian audiences, accumulating 951.1 million streams on Spotify.

According to Jollof Dairy’s in-depth analysis, several key players emerged as frontrunners in shaping Nigeria’s music streaming landscape.

EMPIRE was the undisputed market leader, commanding a 19.60 percent share of the total streams generated by Nigerian users during the first half of 2024. This translates to 186.4 million local streams across 76 songs, propelled by the popularity of releases from the label’s esteemed signees, including Asake, Kizz Daniel, and BNXN.

Hot on EMPIRE’s heels is Dvpper Music, securing a 16.16 percent share of Nigeria’s Spotify streams. The label amassed 153.7 million local streams across 66 songs, largely driven by Seyi Vibez and Shallipopi. These two artists were pivotal in propelling Dvpper Music’s market share in Nigeria during the first half of 2024.

In third place, Mavin raked in 6.27 percent share of Nigeria’s Spotify streams. The label garnered 59.6 million local streams from a diverse catalog of 31 releases, spearheaded by the chart-topping efforts of Ayra Starr, Rema, and Crayon.

Chocolate City also made its mark, securing 5.96 percent share, translated to 56.7 million streams generated from 26 releases. Young Jonn and Blaqbonez emerged as the label’s leading contributors to this achievement. NATIVE Records, powered by the remarkable success of Odumodublvck, claimed the fifth position with a 5.45 percent share of Nigeria’s Spotify streams. This feat was accomplished through the rapper’s 15 records, which collectively amassed 51.8 million local streams.

ONErpm and Sony’s RCA followed closely, securing 5.04 percent and 5.01 percent shares, respectively. ONErpm achieved this through 47.9 million streams across 26 releases featuring contributions from Mohbad, Chike, and Zlatan. RCA’s success was fueled by 47.6 million streams across 29 releases, primarily driven by the star power of Wizkid and Tems.

In the bottom tier of the top 10 rankings, Spaceship Records secured a 4.72 percent share, amassing 44.9 million streams from 14 releases exclusively by Burna Boy. Columbia Records followed suit with a 4.30 percent share, accumulating 40.9 million streams across 19 releases, spearheaded by Davido and Qing Madi. Lastly, Encore claimed a 4.18 percent share, garnering 39.7 million streams from 24 releases, primarily attributed to Victony’s contributions.

The report also shed light on the popularity of Nigeria’s top ten most-streamed songs on Spotify during the first half of 2024, which collectively garnered over 113.5 million streams.

These streams were distributed among seven distinct rightsholders, with Dvpper Music leading the pack. The label claimed the top spot by controlling the streams of Nigeria’s most-loved records, thanks to three chart-topping releases from Shallipopi and Seyi Vibez. These tracks collectively amassed 37.6 million streams, securing an impressive 33.1 percent share in the top 10.

NATIVE Records secured the second position with two releases from Odumodublvck, accumulating a combined 22.3 million streams and commanding a 19.6 percent share of the ten most-streamed songs in Nigeria during H1 2024. ONErpm’s ascent to third place can be attributed to the solitary success of Chike and the late Mohbad’s collaboration ‘Egwu,’ which resonated deeply with Nigerian audiences, generating 15.0 million streams and earning the label a 13.3 percent share.

EMPIRE secured fourth place, primarily driven by Asake’s hit track ‘Lonely at the Top’ from his sophomore album, Work of Art. This song alone garnered 9.7 million streams, contributing significantly to the label’s 8.6 percent share among the most-consumed ten songs by Nigerians in H1 2024.

RCA, with a release from Wizkid’s ‘IDK,’ UnitedMasters, with the Sarz’s ‘Happiness’ featuring Asake & Gunna and Mavin, with a release from Ayra Starr’s ‘Commas,’ follow in subsequent positions. They garnered 9.7 million streams (8.6 percent share), 9.6 million streams (8.5 percent share), and 9.3 million streams (8.3 percent share), respectively.
