The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has again endorsed Alhassan Doguwa, member-elect for Tudun- Wada/Doguwa Constituency in Kano State for the position of the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Adams Oshiomhole, APC Chairman announced this Tuesday when he received Doguwa who was accompanied by the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje to present his Certificate of Return to the party leadership in Abuja.
Doguwa, the immediate past Majority Leader of the House who was sacked by an Appeal Court at the weekend won the rerun election and may be inaugurated Wednesday.
Since Doguwa left the House November last year, the position of the Majority Leader has been vacant with Peter Akpatason (APC, Edo) acting.
Oshiomhole in after receiving Doguwa’s Certificate of Return said the party would give him the second chance to lead its caucus in the House of Representatives based on hi legislative antecedents and service to the party as well as the nation.
“Let me say that from the reaction of your colleagues, the Speaker was in Kano, the Deputy Leader, was also in Kano and it was for nothing that they chose not to fill that position because like members of your constituency who elected you, they were also waiting to reelect you.
“I believe that God gave you a second chance. That the Speaker was in Kano means that he holds you in high esteem. They deliberately decided not to fill the vacancy and just like us, they were confident that the people of your constituency will return you to the House. I don’t think I should say more than that,” he stated.
Earlier, governor Ganduje said, “we are here today to present to you the certificate of return of Alhassan Ado Doguwa who was also the House Leader. This certificate is very important to us because it is a certificate that is carrying two caps.
“One, it is carrying the cap for him to be the member of National Assembly and the other cap, he was the Majority Leader and now he is an applicant. By the grace of the Allah, our National Chairman I hereby present you the certificate”.
Responding, Doguwa reiterated his commitment to the cause of the party and quality legislation for the development of Nigeria, pledging that he was ready to take whatever responsibility his party deemed fit for him.
