UPDATED: Security beefed up at NASS ahead of inauguration

Security has been beefed up in and around the National Assembly, ahead of the inauguration of the Ninth National Assembly today.
The event which will hold in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, will be presided over by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.
Teams comprising policemen, men of Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were stationed at strategic places and ensured that those who have no business at the National Assembly Complex do not find their way in.
Only journalists and staff of the National Assembly with accreditation tags were allowed in through the gate of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while the main gate was reserved for lawmakers-elect and their invited guests.
The two major contenders for the seat of Senate President, Ali Ndume and Ahmad Lawan are already seated in the chamber.
While Lawan has the backing of the Presidency and the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume has the support of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Both candidates were elected on the platform of the APC.
Other senators-elect already seated in the chamber include: Ali Ndume, Dino Melaye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Uche Ekwenife, Chukwuka Utazi, Kabiru Gaya, Goje, Boroffice, Stella Oduah, Emmanuel Bwacha, Gabriel Suswan, Theodore Orji, Dayo Adeyeye, Francis Alimikhena, Orji Uzor Kalu, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, among others.
