Lagos can begin to breathe some air of freedom from Saturday, October 24, as the state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the easing of the current  curfew in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, who briefed journalists Thursday, after a tour of some public and private facilities destroyed in Lagos by hoodlums hiding under the #EndSARS protest, said residents can move out from 8am to 6pm on Saturday.

According to him, the easing of the curfew is being made gradual because from reports after consultation with operatives, “there are still pockets of insecurity out there”

“From Saturday and Sunday, we will look at the situation and see what next to do,” added Sanwo-Olu.

The governor who visited 27 locations in the state to assess the level of damage arising from the protest, described the losses as humongous.

He said his administration was pained by the level of carnage, which he observed had never been witnessed in Lagos since the creation of the state in 1967, warning that “enough is enough”

The governor appealed to people using social media to incite people and fan members to desist forthwith, stressing that Lagos remains the biggest home for businesses and Nigerians from all walks of life. The governor said some wounded in the shooting at the Lekki tollgate and treated at both private hospitals have been discharged while those still on admission are recovering.

He said the state government would pick up the bill of every person who had to be admitted in the hospitals as a result of the shootings.

The governor reassured that the judicial panel of enquiry already set up by his administration to investigate various complaints of police brutality and human rights abuse, now has its mandate extended to also investigate the Lekki tollgate shootings.

He said the panel which was inaugurated on Monday, would commence sitting from next week Monday, and called on members of the public with information and complaints to approach the panel which will be sitting at the Lagos Court of International Arbitration Centre, Lekki.
