NSA absent as Buhari presides over FEC

Federal Executive Council-FEC

Issues on Aviation, Power and the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreements are topping the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting being presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, even as the National Security Adviser NSA to the President was conspicuously absent from the meeting.

The weekly cabinet weekly is used to deliberate, fine tune and reel out policy direction of the federal government and is usually attended by Ministers, Special Advisers to the President and other top government officials.

Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, Head of Service of the Federation HoS , as well as other top government appointees can also attend on invitations from the Cabinet office.

It was not immediately clear if the absence of the NSA , Babagana Monguno is directly related to the ongoing power struggle between the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari and the NSA.

The office of the NSA is a strategic part of the administration, as the NSA advises the government on security matters.

The Presidency has remained silent on the bickering between the two top government officials

BusinessDay observed that as at 11.05am when the President flagged off the meeting, all the Ministers present were already seated , including the Chief of Staff to the President, while the NSA who always attended the meeting was absent.
