Nigeria police website still down hours after it was hacked by Anonymous

The website of the Nigerian police is still down and flagged as a dangerous site to visit hours after it was hacked by a group known as OPNigeria.

When BusinessDay visited the site on Thursday afternoon there was a bold message notifying users that “This account has been suspended.”

The hackers who claim to support the #ENDSARS protest said it has gained access to multiple government websites as a show of solidarity with Nigerians protesting police brutality.

The hackers are believed to be aligned with the global hackers’ network known as Anonymous.

BusinessDay visited the website and found that the compromised information mostly concerns the Nigeria police. There were files named ‘arms details’, ‘useruploads’ which contains names of police officers that have access to weapons, states in Nigeria where the police have command, among others.

“#SARS special police force unit in Nigeria kills innocents. Today 20 more people lost their lives including anons. #Nigeria gov oppression and killings should stop. We are #Anonymous. Expect us. #OpNigeria engaged,” a message left on the hackers handle on Twitter read.

When BusinessDay visited the Twitter handle @OPNigera, it found that Twitter has placed a restriction on it.
