NASS demands tax clearance from journalists before covering inauguration of 9th assembly

NASS
The National Assembly has barred journalists from covering the inauguration of the Ninth Assembly on June 11, 2019.
To this end, it has released 20 stringent guidelines including tax clearance, evidence of certificate of incorporation from media organisations that intend to cover the parliament.
In a memo addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Press Corps alongside a press release, the National Assembly pointed out that all previous accreditations granted to journalists covering the National Assembly will lapse with the dissolution of the Eighth Assembly on June 8, 2019.
While the memo was dated May 16, 2019 with reference number NASS/R&I/INF/23/I, the press statement was dated May 15, 2019 with reference number NASS/R&I/INF/24/I.
The National Assembly Director of Information, Agada Rawlings Emmanuel, signed both documents.
Titled ‘New Guidelines for the Accreditation of Media Organisations, journalists/correspondents covering the National Assembly’, it revealed that the guidelines must be met on or before June 11, 2019.
