Millions of Christians are being mobilized for an unprecedented prayer march tomorrow at locations near their places of worship across Nigeria and abroad in compliance with directives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.

Ahead of the action the leadership of various churches have been sending out instructions to their parishes in Nigeria and abroad asking that Sunday services be cut short to enable parishioners participate in the prayer walk.

The leadership of the Association which called for the march and prayers said it was in reaction to the spate of killings of members across the country and declared a three-day fasting and prayer session as one of the ways of addressing the ugly trend.

Like millions of other Christians, members of the RCCG, for instance, have been instructed to come out at 11 am Sunday to join in the prayer walk.

CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, told journalists in Abuja that the prayer and fasting session was aimed at praying to God to end the killings of innocent Nigerians and give the government of the day the capacity to overcome the criminals troubling the nation.

The decision followed the outrage after Boko Haram murdered Pastor Lawan Andimi, Chairman of CAN in Michika Local Government, Adamawa State on Monday.

There is also the case of Rev Denis Bagauri, who was murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence at Mayo Belwa of Adamawa State over a week ago as well as the beheading of 11 Christians among them a bride-to-be, by the Islamic State in West Africa on Christmas Day of 2019 near Maiduguri.

CAN in a statement said “Sunday, February 2, 2020, is declared a special prayer walk by Christians in all the states of the federation in the form of a procession to be led by states CAN chairmen at CAN secretariats and pastors of churches in all churches in Nigeria.

“Churches should process around their locality, praying for God’s permanent intervention and help from all over the world so that all of us might not be consumed one by one.”
