Mohamed Morsi, an Islamist who served as Egypt’s first democratically elected civilian president before being ousted a year into his first term, has died, state television reported.

Morsi, who succeeded President Hosni Mubarak after the long-time autocrat was pushed from power in a January 2011 mass uprising, died while attending a court hearing.
