EFCC invites Fowler over N100bn tax evasion allegation against Alpha Beta

EFCC invites Fowler over N100bn tax evasion allegation against Alpha Beta

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it is interrogating a former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over the N100 billion tax evasion allegations against Alpha Beta Consulting.

This latest development comes on the heels of the petition by former Alpha Beta Consulting Co-founder, Dapo Apara, to the EFCC alleging that the organisation defrauded Lagos State Government to the tune of N100 billion.

In a telephone chat with BusinessDay the EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, said Fowler was being questioned by the EFCC in their Lagos Office adding that he was invited for interrogation and he responded. He did not give details.

“He (Fowler) was invited by the Lagos Office of the commission and he responded to the invite, that is the situation. At this moment, the commission cannot go into details, he just responded to an invitation. So, as time goes on you can get the details,” Uwujaren said.

BusinessDay gathered that the crime was said to have been committed when Fowler was the chief executive officer of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).

However, an EFCC source told BusinessDay that the commission is investigating Fowler based on the evidence that he allegedly benefited from Alpha Beta.
