Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of complicity in a plot to subvert the will of electorate at ward 3, unit 3 in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

This is coming as electoral officials have begun counting of votes in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 19.

Chris Nehikhare, Edo PDP publicity secretary, in a statement in Benin City, the state capital, alleged that the complicity was discovered at the point of declaring the result.

Nehikhare alleged that the number of accredited voters was less than the total number of votes cast.

“I bring to the notice of all Nigerians and lovers of democracy that INEC staff have being found complicit in an attempt to subvert the will of the people of Unit 3, Ward 3, in Orhionmwon LGA,” Nehikhare said in the statement.

“At the point of declaring the result, it was discovered that the accredited voters figure was less than the total number of votes cast.

“This anomaly is unacceptable, therefore, the result from that unit must be cancelled as there is no other explanation for such other than ballot papers were stuffed in the ballot box to criminally subvert the will of the people,” he said.

The party called for the immediate arrest of the alleged polling officer.

“INEC is hereby advised to do the right thing in delivering free, transparent, credible and fair elections,” he added.
