EDO GUBER: PDP GRANTS WAIVER TO OBASEKI, SHIFTS PRIMARY TO JUNE 25

Edo govt declares 24-hour curfew

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday granted Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, a waiver to contest the party’s governorship primary election.

This is coming less than six hours after the governor and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, formally defected to the People’s Democratic Party.

Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the party in a statement said the governorship primary election earlier slated for Tuesday, June 23 has been shifted to Thursday, June 25, due to exigencies of party activities.

He said the waiver was granted in accordance with the action of the National Working Committee pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP constitution and in exercise of the powers of the National Executive Committee under section 50(3)(b) of the PDP constitution.

“The NWC in exercise of the powers has ratified the application for waiver ward, local government, state executives of the party in Edo state and accordingly grants waiver to His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki to enable him contest the gubernatorial primary of the PDP,” he said.
