CBN’s I&E FX window records $50bn transactions since establishment – Emefiele

Godwin Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said the Investors’ and Exporters’ (I&E) window of country’s foreign exchange market has recorded a total investment transaction of about $50 billion since its establishment.

Emefiele, who was represented by his special adviser on financial markets, Emmanuel Ikeji, made this disclosure on Thursday while speaking at the ongoing 2019 FMDQ Nigerian Capital Markets Conference in Lagos.

“As at the last count, we have had the flow through this particular window of an amount very close to $50 billion in and out since its establishment in April 2017,” the CBN governor said.

The apex bank had introduced the I&E window in 2017 to boost liquidity in the foreign exchange (FX) market and ensure timely execution and settlement of eligible transactions. This was part of CBN’s continuing efforts to deepen the FX market and accommodate all FX obligations.
