Akwa Ibom overtakes Rivers as Nigerian state with highest unemployment rate

Akwa Ibom state has overtaken Rivers as the Nigerian state with the highest unemployment rate as at the third quarter of 2018, latest State unemployment data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have shown.

According to the data, Akwa Ibom state reported the highest unemployment rate of 37.7 percent, while Rivers State trailed with 36.4 percent.

However, Rivers State still came tops as the state with highest unemployed population of 1.67 million, while Akwa Ibom followed closely with 1.35 million people.
