NCAA moves meeting with unions to Abuja

Director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Muhtar Usman, has said that Nigerian airspace is opened to flight operations and calls on air travellers to disregard any notice of travel ban in Nigeria.

According to him, any notice of travel ban is absolute falsehood, misleading and the handiwork of some mischief-makers.

Consequently, a meeting between it and aviation unions earlier slated for Monday, October 26, 2015, has now been shifted to Wednesday 28, at the Authority’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. The shift is to enable all parties be present.

He said separate meetings were held at the NCAA conference room last Friday, with the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) on one hand and another with the representatives of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and National Association of Aircraft Pilot and Engineers (NAAPE).

It was at these meetings that an agreement was reached with the NCAA management to suspend any form of industrial action and the circular to that effect was promptly circulated to all members.

Also at the meeting, the parties unanimously decided that the unions’ executives would go back to their members and engage them in further consultations while another meeting was scheduled for Monday.
