Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Council of Ogun, Mr Gbolade Oduwole, has promised empowerment and agricultural development programmes.

Oduwole told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode that the drive would help to drastically reduce unemployment, especially among youths.

He also pledged to emulate the state government resolve to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the council through improved tax incentives and infrastructural development.

“We plan to embark on rigorous skill acquisition programmes aimed at empowering our youths because knowledge is power and a lot of our youths lack the prerequisite skills to be self-sufficient.

“Ijebu-Ode is also planning to partner with other nearby local government areas on agriculture, where Ijebu-Ode can be the processing centre for raw materials that are lacked.

“A model we can emulate is the Lagos and Kebbi states partnership on rice cultivation and processing, something similar can be achieved here in Ijebu-Ode,” he said.

Oduwole urged residents to desist from paying their dues or taxes to any individual but rather make use of the e-payment channels.

“We are currently embarking on data gathering in the council where we have accurate details concerning everyone attached to the system.

“To achieve our objectives, we must work together and ensure no one is left behind in our developmental agenda,” Oduwole said.

He said his administration would not condone poor sanitation and disregard for environmental laws, adding that the task to keep Ijebu-Ode clean is everyone’s responsibility.

The chairman reassured the people the administration of Gov. Ibikunle Amosun remained committed to the provision of infrastructure and developmental projects for the benefit of all.

He therefore solicited for support and cooperation from all to enable the government deliver on its electoral promises.
