Johnson Onuigbo, State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned the death of two persons during the party’s Local Government chairmanship primaries last Wednesday in Isiala- Ngwa North council Area of Abia State when the office of the Transition Committee Chairman was completely burnt down by hoodlums.

The chairman appealed to members for calm as he condemned the actions of some hoodlums in the council by causing confusion and taking the lives of innocent citizens, even as he warned the perpetrators to desist from such dastardly act and give peace a chance.

According to the Abia police command public relations officer (PPRO) Nta Ogbonnaya, “So far four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident”.

Amah Abraham, the transition committee chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, while reacting to the incident said the party primaries election was not worth taking the life of anybody.

He added that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had earlier made it categorically clear that his administration would not encourage imposition or impunity and that people should embrace the zoning formula for equity and Justice to prevail within the state.

Amah, while applauding the governor for his resolve to conduct Local government elections after eight years, appealed to politicians and supporters to embrace peace as the election progressed stressing that it would be unacceptable for Abians to fight each other just for a 24-months-stay in office (Chairmanship Tenure).

Speaking on the primaries, the Council Chairman said Arochukwu Local Government must respect the party’s constitution and guidelines in the conduct of the exercise and promised hitch-free primaries that would be acceptable by people in the Area.

One of the chairmanship aspirants, Tony Kalu, told newsmen in Arochukwu that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu should be commended by Abians, given the fact that the state had never conducted local government election in eight years.

According to Kalu, Arochukwu local government people are known for maturity during elections and are ready to accept and embrace anyone who emerges after the primaries.
