Top brokers trade N289.137bn worth of shares in Q1

 In the first quarter (Q1) of 2013, the value of shares traded by only 10 stockbroking firms stood at N289.137 billion or 56.70 percent of the total value of shares traded on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Out of this value of share, Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited accounted for N83.802 billion or 16.43 percent, while Rencap Securities (Nigeria) Limited accounted for N79.877 billion or 15.66 percent, according to details at the NSE on top 10 stockbrokers by value.

Others top players in value are CSL Stockbrokers Limited which traded stocks valued at N33.093 billion or 6.49 percent; FBN Securities Limited (N18.486bn or 3.62%); BGL Securities Limited (N14.886bn or 2.92%); Cordros Capital Limited (N13.991bn or 2.74%).

In addition, stockbroking firms that played big in Q1 in terms of value of stocks they traded include Chapelhill Denham Securities Limited (N13.806bn or 2.71%); Partnership Investment Company Limited (N11.036bn or 2.16%); Zenith Securities Limited (N10.489bn or 2.06%) and Vetiva Securities Limited (N9.667bn or 1.90%).

In terms of volume traded on the Nigerian bourse at end of Q1’2013, top 10 brokers accounted for 25,202,524,319 shares or 39.59 percent of the overall volume of equities traded at the NSE in the three-month period.

The stockbroking firms that surpassed other firms are Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited, which exchanged 4,770,874,597 shares or 7.49 percent; Rencap Securities (Nigeria) Limited exchanged 4,596,555,863 share or 7.22 percent; BGL Securities Limited (4,008,716,695 shares or 6.30%); CSL Stockbrokers Limited (2,910,817,051 shares or 4.57%), and Imperial Asset Managers Limited (2,072,174,278 shares or 3.25%).

Others in this category are APT Securities and Funds Limited (1,680,146,192 shares or 2.645); Meristem Securities Limited (1,453,182,478 shares or 2.28%); FBN Securities Limited (1,355,312,203 shares or 2.13%); Partnership Investment Company Limited (1,195,991,796 shares or 1.88%), and Cashcraft Asset Management Limited (1,158,753,166 shares or 1.82%).
