HICC to launch social enterprise, prepares for 4th entrepreneurship forum

The Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC) is set to host the 4th edition of its annual Harvesters Entrepreneurship Forum for 2020 themed ‘Reimagining Africa’s Path to Prosperity through Innovation’. It is scheduled to hold on the 29th of February.

The event is primarily targeted at budding, established and prospective entrepreneurs to help them achieve a seamless business operation regardless of the business environment.

Bolaji Idowu, convener of the programme, who is also the lead pastor at HICC, said the forum was an initiative of the church born by its passion and commitment to building people and helping them grow. He said in order to achieve that, existing social and economic problems must be tackled first in Nigeria and Africa at large.

“Unemployment is growing at an alarming rate, so is the poverty rate. The surge in social vices like cyber crime, prostitution, robbery and other is due to the absence of a specific career path to success. “We believe that if there are no jobs with which people can take care of themselves, we can train them to start business and excel with it so they can take care of themselves,” he said.

He explained that the major agenda of the forum is to tackle poverty, inspire people to be successful and equip them with different opportunities like networking, mentoring and seed funding.

Idowu also said that the launch of the Harvesters Social Enterprise award is worth $10,000 and will be given to any innovative entrepreneur that is able to solve a major challenge in Africa.

He added that after the programme, there will be series of courses and programmes for the participants as follow-up and monitoring process which includes mentoring, trainings, webinars, and podcasts.

Speaking on the programme, he said it is a one-day multi-location event with seasoned and experienced speakers like Herbert Wigwe, CEO, Access bank; Mitchell Elegbe, GMD, Interswitch; Odun Eweniyi, co-founder, PiggyVest, among many others.
