PenCom begins enrollment of over 2,700 retirees

The National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has commenced its enrollment and verification exercise for Federal Civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, at the Women Development Centre in Abuja.

In a press statement signed by Peter Aghahowa, Head Corporate Communication Department, PENCOM,  the enrolment exercise falls in the second phase of a nationwide programme which is still underway in areas like Lagos state and Ogun state, with phase one already completed in 12 centers across the nation.

The exercise which started on the July 30, 2018 is meant for employees in the service of the Federal Government who are set to retire between January to December, 2019 by virtue of attaining either 60 years of age or 35 years in service and also 65 years of age for employees of tertiary institutions or 70 years of age for university professors.  The physical exercise is to facilitate the payment of their retirement benefits and also applies to retirees who retired before this period, but are yet to be enrolled.

Attendees are required to show up for the enrollment and verification exercise with originals and copies of their letters of appointment, evidence of transfer of service and acceptance where applicable and birth certificate or a declaration of age. A promotion letter and pay slip indicating grade level and step for the following periods: June, 2004; January, 2007; July, 2010 and December, 2013.

Other requirements needed at the enrollment center include an introduction letter from the MDAs, staff identity card, letter or evidence of retirement where applicable, letter of indemnity from the MDAs and also evidence of registration with a credible Pension Fund Administrator (PFA), indicating their Retirement Savings Account and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

To aid in the verification exercise the commission requires a Pension Desk Officer (PDO) from each MDA, in order to ensure a hitch free exercise. The PDOs are also expected to represent medically unfit potential retirees who are exempted from the physical exercise, by presenting their paperwork and a certification letter from a qualified physician or medical board justifying their absence from the exercise.

The Commission advises all prospective FG retirees to participate in this exercise as it is a prerequisite for the payment of their retirement benefits.

The enrollment and verification exercise is scheduled to end on August 17th 2018.
