Continental Reinsurance plc, Africa’s largest private reinsurer, outside of South Africa, has announced the appointment of Ibrahima Ndoye as the regional director for its Cote d’Ivoire office.

Ndoye is a seasoned reinsurance underwriter and has worked in Cote d’Ivoire and the surrounding region over the past 16 years. He holds a master’s degree in professional audit and management control and a degree in Electrical Engineering (Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique).

He has in-depth understanding of the Cote d’Ivoire market, its local risks and local market needs to leverage and support the country’s notable economic growth. According to the African Development Bank, Cote d’Ivoire’s gross domestic product is forecast to grow at 9.8 percent in 2014.

Femi Oyetunji, group managing director and chief executive officer, Continental Reinsurance, said the company is very pleased to appoint strong and very experienced local talents in Cote d’Ivoire and is confident that Ndoye’s appointment will support the company’s pan-African growth strategy and development in the reinsurance market in Cote d’Ivoire.

“Africa has vast potential to develop a world class reinsurance market; however, to achieve this we need reinsurance skills including analytical, actuarial, underwriting and asset management skills as well as local knowledge to grow and support Africa’s renaissance,” Oyetunji said.

“Continental Reinsurance is fully committed to addressing the skills shortage by developing local talent, providing training and knowledge to local markets and to bringing the Diaspora back to Africa,” he said.

Continental Reinsurance offers a full suite of non-life and life reinsurance services to African insurers. It is rated B+ (Good) by AM Best for financial strength and credited for robust risk-adjusted capital.
