John Gaul LeboThe Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, John Gaul Lebo, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not have learnt from the mistakes which caused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) the presidency.

Lebo made the observation at the weekend while speaking with journalists at the Assembly complex in the Cross River State capital.

“I am surprised that APC ismaki ng the same mistake that PDP made. Even though PDP are correcting themselves, APC should not go back to those same old ways that Nigerians condemned PDP for and tried to play on it. Their own fall would be more dangerous because they came to talk about change and the change will hardly be felt. Change should not mean a rehearsal of impunity”, Lebo cautioned.

The Speaker cautioned that the election of Senator Bukola Saraki as president of the Senate should be respected because he is a man that has
garnered much experience to steer the upper legislative chamber.

According to him, “Senator Bukola Saraki has been a former governor, a chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum. Yes, he went to APC and became a senator and as senator and the experience of governor, we must look at his political strength from the North-Central. You must look at his acceptability among the senators, the 109 senators. When a political party like the APC underrates the fact that the 109 senators of the National Assembly have the ability and the right to choose within themselves a leader and the party wants to impose a leader, they are going to find crises that they won’t recover from.”

He also commended Speaker of House of Representatives of having an enviable pedigree necessary to lead and stabilise the House for the good of the country.

“Yakubu Dogara was a former PDP member, before he moved to APC. I have practised law with him when he was with Yohana Madaki. He has capacity, and is an intelligent young man,” he said.

“APC should allow internal process, else they would have persistent problems,” he warned.

“Whether is PDP spirit or APC spirit, the truth is that Nigerians are tired of some particular patterns of behaviour and want to see real change.
That’s what the APC people call it. But I ca ll it reform. Nigeria wants to see reform in the attitude of our politicians,” he further pointed out.
