We have achieved 78.93% distribution of PVCs, says INEC

Thugs disrupt PVC collection in some wards in Edo

Following the shift of dates for the conduct of the 2015 general elections and subsequent extension for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to March 8, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it has so far recorded 78.93% distribution of the PVCs to registered voters in different states across the country.

According to the latest figures released by the commission on Friday, INEC said the total number of registered voters is 68,833,476. The number of voters who have collected their PVC stands at 54,327,747. Hence the percentage of cards collected stands at 78.93%.

The statistics of distribution of the PVCs released in the statement showed that Jigawa State with 1,831,276 registered voters, had had the highest level of PVCs distribution of 1,794,646 or 98 percent performance.

The statistics also show that Gombe State follows with 95.05 percent, having distributed 1,062,577 PVCs as against 1,120,023 registered voters in the state.

Third in the statistics was Bauchi, where the commission had attained 94.36 percent distribution, as 1,938,192 eligible voters out of 2,054,125 registered in the state had collected their PVCs.

However, the statistics showed that so far Ogun is still recording the least number of distributed PVCs of 808,590 representing 44.20 percent of 1,829,534 registered voters in the state. Meanwhile, Lagos State, with the highest number of registered voters of 5,905,852, the commission said that it had attained 63.44 percent as it had distributed 3,693,355 PVCs.

The statistics included number of PVCs collected in Abia was 1,132,928, Adamawa, 1,364,804, Akwa-Ibom, 1,587,566; Anambra, 1,527,045; and Bayelsa, 404,119.

The statistics show that Benue recorded 77.71 PVCs distribution rate, Borno, 68.28 percent; Cross River, 78.22 percent; Delta, 78.91 percent; Ebonyi, 78.97 percent; Edo, 67.30 percent; Ekiti, 69.10 percent; Enugu, 81.82 percent; FCT, 62.67 percent and Imo, 75.02 percent.

In Kaduna State, 92.72 percent; Kano, 83.64 percent; Kastina, 92.65 percent; Kebbi, 89.53 percent; Kogi, 68.55 percent; Kwara, 75.17 percent; Nasarawa; 82.62 percent,  Niger, 82.52 percent; Ondo, 70.44 percent, and Osun, 72.57 percent.

Oyo State had attained 66.37 percent of PVCs distribution while Plateau had 71.48 percent coverage; Rivers, 82.41 percent; Sokoto State, 88.60 percent; Taraba, 93.42 percent, and Yobe, 74.95 percent and Zamfara, 93.42 percent distribution.

It would be recalled that INEC shifted the date of elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 because of low PVC distribution details and insecurity in the country.
