Jonathan re-nominates Obanikoro minister, sends names of eight to Senate

President Goodluck Jonathan has sent the names of eight ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

In a letter read by Senate President David Mark at Tuesday’s resumption of plenary, those nominated include the immediate past minister of state for defence, Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos), two former senators, Patricia Akwashiki (Nasarawa) and Joel Danlami Ikenya (Taraba).

Others are Nicholas Akise Ada (Benue), Augustine Akobundu (Abia), Fidelis Nwankwo (Ebonyi), Hauwa’u Lawan (Jigawa) and Kenneth Kobani (Rivers).

Obanikoro contested for the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State but lost out to Jimi Agbaje.

The letter dated February 16, 2015 noted that the nomination is in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
