Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele said on Tuesday that he is still at work, dousing wide speculations, yesterday, that he had been removed ahead of the end of his tenure in June.

Emefiele was speaking at a meeting with textIle industry stakeholders which he presided over in Abuja

Responding to a question on the rumours of his sack, Emefiele simply said, “I am here and at least, you are seeing me.”

Emefiele is due to leave office in June after his five years tenure and a possibility of a second term looks dim going by the fact that no CBN governor has had his tenure renewed in several years.

BusinessDay understands that aready, there is a intense lobbying on who takes over the CBN governor’s office.

It was also gathered that the government appears to be looking towards the Northern part of the country for the next head of the apex bank.
