YEDC
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), has increased daily power supply to Jalingo Business unit from ten to twenty-five mega watts to ensure stable Power supply to the state.
The Business manager of Jalingo unit, Herbert Rufus Hanawa disclosed this in Jalingo on Tuesday while interacting with journalists.
Hanawa said that the increment which is responsible for the relatively stable Power supply to the state was as a result of some of the measures put in place by the management of the company and the support from the state government.
“We got an allocation increase from ten to twenty five mega watts daily in Jalingo Business Unit. This is as a result of the synergy between YEDC and Taraba state government, as well as prompt action on faults. When faults are reported we ensure they are cleared promptly.
“The management of YEDC has also made a major supply of some of the equipment we need to function in this unit optimally. This include the purchase of 3  500KVA; 33/0.415KV Transformers by the Management  and supply of materials for network Strengthening including over 300-HT and LT Poles, Ladders, Cross-arms, Safety Kits, Feeder-Pillars, Cables of different sizes to mention but a few”.
Hanawa who appealed to customers to prioritize payment of electricity bills to enable the company sustain the current stability in power supply, disclosed that more than ten thousand customers have huge outstanding bills,  costing the company over a hundred and sixty million Naira monthly.
The Business Manager explained that out of eighteen thousand customers in Jalingo distribution unit only eight thousand were up to date in the payment of bills thereby coursing the unit serious set back.
“For instance in March this year, our Target was N267, 869,700 million you can see that the target is high that our collection can not get to half of the Target because we only collected N100  million”.
He appreciated the Taraba state government for the synergy with the company  which led to the installation of 21 trasformers with 14 yet to be installed adding that, the allocation increase  from 10 mega wats to 25 mega wats with the aid of governor Darius Ishaku was another reason for steady power supply in Jalingo town.
“Last year the state government purchased eighteen transformers it made us recognized governor Ishaku with an award. Recently also 21 transformers were installed, by the state government  14 new ones are also yet to be installed”.
