The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral video that its fuel burns faster than others, calling the claims baseless and misleading.

In a statement signed by Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, on Saturday, the company said the assertion was based on “unverified and amateur research” lacking credibility and professional oversight.

“NNPC reaffirms that its fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers,” the statement said.

It added that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos, where the video was allegedly made, comes from the Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards.

NNPC described the video as an attempt by “economic saboteurs” to mislead the public and damage its reputation.

The company warned that it would take legal action against individuals or groups spreading falsehoods about its operations.

“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the statement added.

NNPC urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources for accurate information and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fuel availability, affordability, and quality while maintaining global industry standards.
