Kartel Energy Limited has launched two product lines aimed at addressing Nigeria’s chronic electricity shortage, unveiling solar street lighting and lithium battery storage systems designed specifically for the country’s unstable grid conditions.

The Nigerian original equipment manufacturer introduced its Ensky Solar range and GenixGreen and Luxxwatt battery series at the Powerelec Nigeria Exhibition 2026 in Lagos, marking an expansion of its renewable energy offerings in Africa’s most populous nation.

The move comes as Nigeria grapples with persistent power supply challenges. The national grid frequently collapses, with electricity generation often falling below 4,000 megawatts for a population exceeding 200mn people. This has driven demand for alternative energy solutions across residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

Ola Ogunsemowo, chief executive of Kartel Energy, said the products were engineered to withstand local conditions including voltage fluctuations and high ambient temperatures. “We engineer and build for the Nigerian context, considering the unreliable national grid and frequent power outages,” he said.

The Ensky Solar street lights feature motion sensors, integrated panels and LED bulbs capable of 6,500 lumens brightness. The units offer 48-hour battery life and IP65 weather resistance, with warranties spanning two to three years. Pricing details were not disclosed, though the company described rates as “competitive”.

The battery systems represent a more significant strategic push. GenixGreen targets commercial and industrial clients with high-voltage systems reaching 768 volts, designed for factories, estates and large developments seeking to reduce diesel generator dependence. Luxxwatt focuses on low-voltage lithium systems for homes, small businesses, retail outlets and clinics, prioritising affordability and reliability.

The dual-brand approach allows Kartel to address different market segments whilst maintaining focus on specific use cases. GenixGreen emphasises scalability and intelligent power management for heavy loads, whilst Luxxwatt targets everyday Nigerian consumers and small enterprises previously reliant on petrol generators or inconsistent grid supply.

Kartel claims to have already powered more than 150,000 homes and businesses through its existing solar inverter, battery and panel installations. The company plans further expansion through strategic partnerships and the establishment of a Kartel Energy Academy, though details on the training initiative remain limited.

Nigeria’s renewable energy sector has attracted growing investment as businesses and households seek alternatives to diesel and petrol generators, which carry high fuel costs and environmental drawbacks. The federal government has set ambitious targets for renewable energy adoption, though implementation has lagged policy announcements.

Industry observers note that success will depend on financing accessibility, after-sales support and product durability under harsh operating conditions. Previous solar initiatives in Nigeria have faced challenges with component quality and maintenance infrastructure.

Kartel Energy’s focus on local manufacturing and context-specific engineering could provide competitive advantages in a market increasingly wary of imported systems ill-suited to Nigerian conditions. The company’s existing installation base suggests some market traction, though scaling remains the critical test.

The launches position Kartel as a domestic alternative to international renewable energy providers entering the Nigerian market. With grid reliability showing little improvement despite government promises, demand for decentralised power solutions continues to grow across all economic segments.
