Wigwe University restates commitment to excellence, innovation

…holds lecture in memory of Herbert Wigwe

Wigwe University has restated its commitment to excellence and innovation in accordance with ideals and ethos of his late founder, Herbert Wigwe.

This statement was made at the inaugural founder’s day lecture held in honour and memory of Herbert Wigwe, its visionary founder, and former chief executive officer of Access Bank and Access Holdings PLC.

BusinessDay reports that the lecture provided the opportunity for distinguished Nigerians to pay tribute to the legacy of excellence, innovation, and transformative leadership espoused by the late Wigwe, who tragically passed away last year, together with Chizoba Wigwe, his beloved wife, and Chizi Wigwe, his son.

Speaking during the lecture, Fabian Ajogwu, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, reminded the institution’s leadership to remain steadfast in its mission to provide world-class education that empowers students to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

“We expect the University’s leadership to continue to provide visionary guidance in actualising our mission.

“We charge the fearless community of Wigwe University to pursue their dreams with courage, emboldened by new learning, STEM advancements, AI development, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

“Together, we will honour the legacy of the University’s founder and build a future that reflects his extraordinary vision,” he said.

Ajogwu noted that key attributes such as excellence, innovation and transformative leadership must continue to inspire the mission of the University.

According to the legal luminary, the leadership of the institution must keep to the vision of becoming a global hub for cutting-edge research, scientific discovery, and entrepreneurial development by fostering a fearless community of learners who are equipped to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria urged the Management of the institution to remain focused on providing visionary leadership that aligns with its mission, stating that doing so would honour the legacy of its founder.

During the lecture, the University reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, innovation, and the transformative power of education, noting that it is poised to lead the way in shaping the future of higher education in Africa and beyond.

Wigwe University is designed to be the most exquisite University in Africa. The University situated in Isiokpo, Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, and was approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in June 2023.
