The administrative and finance committee of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed confidence in the organisation’s management led by Amos Dangut, head of the national office, amid an ongoing dispute with labour unions.

The committee, which is the council’s highest advisory body on administrative and financial matters in Nigeria, made this known following its 240th meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The administrative and finance committee commended Dangut and his management team for their exemplary leadership, operational efficiency, and institutional discipline, particularly in sustaining the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2026, despite recent union-related concerns.

The committee disclosed this in a statement issued by the public affairs department, as signed by Moyosola Adesina, Ag. Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Yaba, on Wednesday, noted that the management’s handling of administrative responsibilities and staff engagement reflects professionalism, strategic focus, and a strong commitment to WAEC’s core values.

This statement emphasised a comprehensive review of the Nigerian National Office’s operations, in the face of the workers’ union face-off with the management.

In passing a formal vote of confidence on Dangut and his team, the committee reaffirmed its management support and expressed confidence in its capacity to continue advancing the council’s mandate effectively.

It also cautioned against any actions that could undermine WAEC’s institutional reputation and integrity.

The committee further reassured candidates, parents, ministries of education, and other stakeholders that the council’s operations nationwide remain stable, seamless, and fully on course, while reaffirming its commitment to transparency, staff welfare, and a peaceful working environment.

Recall that BusinessDay earlier reported the three-day protest embarked by the WAEC workers’ union over their welfare concerns and unfulfilled agreement with the management of the council.

At the end of the three-day protest, the union streamlined their demands to one, which was a call for the removal of the Dangut as the head of the national office at WAEC-Nigeria.

Besides, WAEC had earlier assured candidates, parents, and the general public that the ongoing 2026 WASSCE will not be disrupted by the workers-management crisis.
