Uniben signs MoU for production of tablets to boost e-learning

Authorities of University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Tuesday, said they has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Compunet computers and Telecommunication company, for the production of computer tablets to aid e-learning.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Faraday Orumwense, disclosed this at a press briefing ahead of the 43rd convocation and 47th founder’s day ceremony of the institution.

Orumwense, who said a total of 9,993 students would be graduating from the various academic disciplines, added that 100 graduands got first class passes, while 1,843 students got second class upper passes, 4,607 with second class lower, 1,351 with the third class pass.

Others are one student has Aegrotat degree, 188 with a diploma, two students bagged certificate,527 students with unclassified, 152 bagged Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD), 1,120 with Masters and 102 with Doctorate Degree(PhD).

He also disclosed that ten Professors of the institution have been appointed to head various tertiary institutions in the country.

He said this year, convocation’s lecture would be delivered by Chidi Nebo. a professor and former minister of power, while the former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase would deliver the founder’s day lecture.

The Vice-Chancellor, further added that Grace Alele-Williams, the former Vice-Chancellor of the university would be conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.SC) Honoris Causa for her outstanding contributions in the field of education at both national and international levels.

Also to be conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.SC)Honoris Causa is George Osemwengie Agbonlahor, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, as well as, tireless commitment towards the growth and development of education in Nigeria.

He said the convocation ceremony will commence on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
