Taraba govt delivers 2,520 school seats, tables to boost primary school education
In an effort to provide conducive learning environment for primary school pupils and boost school enrollment, the Taraba State government on Thursday take delivery of 2,520 Chairs and Tables for school children.
Executive Chairman, Taraba State Universal Basic Education Commission,  Yakubu Agbaizo disclosed this while inspecting the furniture at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
Agbaizo who said the furniture were procured at the cost of N72 million warned headmasters and school management committee of the benefiting schools from diverting the furniture.
“The furniture are meant to make learning eseier  for children. It’s sad to see children sitting on the floor to learn.
“In an ideal situation, a school is supposed to be attractive and conducive environment to give the children psychological support to learn.
“If a child is used to sitting on a stone at home,  he or she should not sit on the same stone or bare floor while in school. Such a child will not be encouraged to learn if the environment is not conducive.
“So, I want to call on head teachers and management committee to ensure good use of these furniture and not divert same for private use.
“These materials are supposed to last for at least 10 years, so the benefiting schools should make good use of the furniture for the good of the school pupils,” he said.
BusinessDay reports that the seats which are product of a counterpart fund paid by the Taraba State government are to be sent to 28 schools in 13 local government areas of the state.
