School Resumption: Lagos Govt orders Private Schools to register with Office of Education Quality Assurance
Lagos State government on Tuesday called on all private schools in the state to gear up at meeting necessary guidelines towards resumption of classes for terminal students in preparation for the West African Examination Council (WASSCE) Examination.
The schools are to among others have a functional water system, wash hand basins, adequate stock of soaps and hand sanitizers, infrared thermometer (s)for temperature checks, a nurse/health officer, enough classes to accommodate social distancing, sitting arrangement of one meter physical distancing etc.
Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, rolled out the state government directives at a press briefing on Wednesday, at the state Secretariat, Alausa.
According to her, all schools must be fumigated, disinfected and decontaminated before the set date for resumption.
She therefore, asked every private school in the to look into the peculiarities of their schools and be guided accordingly. “Most schools have gone far in preparing their terminal students for their final examinations.
However, schools cannot be reopened unless it is safe to do so. “I urge all Schools to ensure that measures required for reopening are put in place. This becomes important because our mandate is to put in place efficient structures for monitoring and evaluation of both government and private schools to enhance the quality of education in the state,”Seriki-Ayeni said.
As resumption is approaching, “All private school owners in Lagos state (Registered or unregistered) to register with the office of Education Quality Assurance before reopening of schools.
“School owners are advised to strictly comply with this directive that will be of immense benefit to them. Evaluators will be out to monitor compliance after the expiration of the timeline guaranteed,” Seriki-Ayeni said.
