Oyo SUBEB to recruit teachers in Q1 this year – chairman

Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board(OYSUBEB) will begin the recruitment of primary school teachers in the first quarter of 2021.

Executive chairman of the board, Nureni Aderemi Adeniran who disclosed this in an interview said that the process for recruitment has started and that some few things are still being worked out to start the recruitment exercise.

While giving assurance that recruitment the exercise will begin by the first quarter of this year, he stated that it is needed to boast the primary education in the state.

According to him, we have lost many teachers to retirement, death and some to moved from primary schools to Secondary Schools and we must replace them. We are already doing underground works as I can assure you that Oyo SUBEB recruitment will commence by the quarter of 2021.

Adeniran also disclosed that the state government has reintroduced open day in public schools in the state saying is to ensure that teachers and parents monitor their wards.

“We introduced open day on the basis to ensure interaction between the parents and teachers because many parents do not know what their wards are doing in the school.

The focus of the open day, he said, was to ensure proper monitoring of students from home to their schools and the state government is monitoring schools to ensure compliance.

According to him, we introduced open day in Oyo schools recently. We introduced it to enable the teachers and the parents have interaction.

“Many parents do not what their children are doing in schools and many teachers do not know what the students are doing at home. A lot of teachers do not know the background of the students, they do not know what they are facing at home.

While reiterating the determination at attaining more success in 2021, Adeniran disclosed that the Board has recorded 95 percent projects completion amidst COVID-19 and EndSars protest in 2020

“When we came into the office, we have plans and we ensure that we put in efforts to achieve this. To the glory of God, we awarded 5 model schools, 15 blocks of classrooms, we have 59 renovations done across the state as well as providing schools with chairs and tables for both the teachers and students. We also equipped the sports facility and to the glory of God, I can tell you that 5 model schools we awarded are completed and we only gave them out in the year 2020 and we ensured that all hands are on deck to deliver these projects along with the completion of the borehole.

“Despite having a lot of projects inherited from the previous administration, we are focused to deliver. We inherited 54 projects from the previous administration and by the grace of God, we were able to complete 41 projects so far despite the Covid 19 pandemic”.

The present administration in the state, he pointed out, believed in continuity as he refuses to terminate contracts awarded by the previous administration.

“The administration of Seyi Makinde is the government of all and that is why we didn’t terminate contracts awarded by the previous administration despite the fact that they awarded a lot of projects and they were unable to complete many but we took it upon ourselves to ensure that we complete the projects. We also realized that the previous administration didn’t pay the counterpart funds early to ensure the projects completion but this administration under Seyi Makinde has been paying the counterpart funds to ensure we give out projects and ensure completions”.

On the efforts of SUBEB during the first phase of Covid-19, he disclosed that, the board was able to introduce the School On Air Programme, in collaboration with the ministry of education and media houses in Oyo State.

Also, the agency trained over 2000 head-teachers on Covid-19, and also distributed materials like sanitizers, soap, nose masks during that period while proper monitoring was also enhanced.

The SUBEB Chairman said the Agricultural Educational Transparency Programme (AETP) was aimed at training students on agricultural ways through programmes like animal husbandry and the likes in different Government schools in Oyo State.
