Our educational system is in dire need of proper evaluation – IT expert

The need for proper evaluation and monitoring of students to ensure efficiency in all areas of learning have been advocated.

Ademola John, the Director, SOFTRAY Technology Institute in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital gave the indication in an interview with Businessday.

According to him, education is the key to success in all ramifications, therefore, the government should ensure that all ages are enlightened and given quality education for better development of the country.

He says: “let more vocational centres be established as we have abroad. We have scholars that can use their brain to help this country but they are lacking fund Government should support intellectualism and fund innovation, talented people.

“China and other countries are supporting their citizens with entrepreneurship skills and that is why they are thriving. We need to have more entrepreneurship centres in Nigeria.”

John, an entrepreneur who masters in Information Technology (IT), and had been mentoring students at institutions of higher learning since 2008, pointed out that there are lots of opportunities in IT, saying if government can assist

Nigerian youths, it will surely grow the economy.

“We do more of training students from Unilorin, Kwasu, FUT Minna, Landmark University among others for Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), We tech them on different aspects of IT like Graphics design, Programming, auto card, Marketing, Network Management and IT education.

“Our government should support IT skills and assist talented people that have the technical initiative to grow the idea. Nigerians are performing better in outside the country,” he said.

Speaking further, the IT expert recommended that “there should be more practical in our contemporary learning institutions. Let us forget about using the curriculum of the 19th century in the 21st century. Let more institutions be created. If we can all key into entrepreneurship, the problem of unemployment in the country would be addressed.

“IT is lucrative, you can work remotely from anywhere at any time. During lockdown to contain Covid-19, activities generally were totally closed but with IT, government and other parastatals were able to have virtual meetings. IT is leading everywhere now,” he explained.

John, therefore, enjoined youths not wait for government rather; they should venture into something no matter how small to survive.
