Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode would be among top dignitaries to grace the N2billion endowment fund programme being organised by the Alumni Association of the University of Lagos.
The endowment fund event is part of activities to mark 55th anniversary of the University of Lagos and the money when realise will be used to construct 500 bed-space hostel accommodations for the university.
Sonny Kuku, National President of the association while briefing newsmen on lined up activities for the celebration said the N2b endowment fund for 500 bed-space hostel project will be more attractive to postgraduate students and will be offered on the basis of first come, first serve.
Kuku who was represented by the National Vice President of the association and former Managing Director, Guinness Plc, Seni Adetu, said the association has decided to celebrate the day by giving awards to those who have contributed so much for the development of the society, adding that the university has produced about 200,000 graduates that hold key positions various sectors of the economy.
He said that aside the conferment of 10 high profile individual awards; one special category award and three awards for groups, the Association will also confer on its distinguished members various categories of awards for their immense contributions to the development of the university and the nation.
Dignitaries expected at the event, scheduled to hold on Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Pro-Chancellor, Wale Babalakin, will chair the high-profile event.
He said UNILAG as a university of first choice, has churned out some of the best sitting and past governors, senators, ministers, captains of industries, among other prominent Nigerians.
