…Matriculates 8,000 freshmen
Kate Omenugha, a professor and acting Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, on Saturday administered the matriculation oath to 8,000 newly admitted students of the institution to mark its Silver Jubilee.
The 26th matriculation ceremony of the university, held at the three campuses of Igbariam, Uli and Awka was witnessed by enthusiastic fresh students, parents, friends, and well-wishers.
Omenugha reminded the new students of the institution’s vision towards providing an excellent platform for research, teaching, and learning in science, technology, and humanities to produce graduates with skills, functionally creative, and worthy in character to make significant contributions to the overall development of society.
Omenugha, represented at the institution’s Uli Campus by Prof. O. I. Chiaghanam, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, said the matriculants should do well to internalise the vision and mission, and strive to develop their skills and be socially responsible, noting that the university will provide them with various platforms to develop the skills, rules and regulations to achieve their purpose.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor urged the matriculating students to be disciplined, respectful, attend lectures, avoid indecent dressing, cultism and ensure registration of courses,, stressing that there are penalties for various offences.
“The university is an academic community made up of people of different family backgrounds. Similarly, individuals who make up the community exhibit characteristics typical of their families of origin.
“Consequently, in this university community, as fresh students, you will encounter students who are pleasant, amiable, disciplined, studious, honest, sincere, friendly, God-fearing and graceful. It is our wish that you encounter only such students.
“On the other hand, it is also possible to encounter some students of low moral or even amoral background. These categories of students thrive in dishonesty, insincerity, unfriendliness, heartlessness, ungodly and unChristian behaviours, laziness, extravagance and indiscipline. We pray that you do not encounter such persons throughout your stay in this university,” Omenugha said.
