A new leadership chapter has begun at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) following the appointment of Segun Aina as the board’s new registrar, succeeding Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment on Thursday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent and a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed a Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
According to the statement, Aina has over 15 years of experience spanning digital systems, examination administration and public-sector reform.
Before his appointment, Aina previously worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service, an experience said to have shaped his contributions to examination system development and optimisation.
Coincidentally, Aina will be turning 40 in July as he resumes office at JAMB. Presently, he is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
With the appointment, Aina is regarded as one of the youngest to attain the rank in the field and will become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council, NECO, and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, advising on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital transformation.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina’s expertise would further strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the achievements of his predecessor.
Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, IET.
Recall that Oloyede’s tenure at the helm of affairs at JAMB was marked by sweeping reforms and a stronger push for transparency in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.
Stakeholders are now looking ahead to how Aina will build on those achievements while steering the examination body through emerging challenges in the education sector.
