Ndaeyo emerges 8th vice chancellor of UNIUYO

The Governing Council of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has approved the appointment of Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo as the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

A statement by the Universit’s Registrar, Aniedi Udofia, made available to our correspondent in Uyo indicated that the decision was reached at a Special Meeting held by the Governing Council.

Udofia said Ndaeyo’s appointment was announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Austin C. Awujo.

The new Vice Chancellor was until his appointment, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration); immediate past Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Chairman, Committee of Deans among other administrative experiences.

Ndaeyo, according to the statement, holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Farm Systems and Masters degree in Agronomy both from the Premier University in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan.

“Ndaeyo is also an alumnus of the University of Uyo (then University of Cross River State) where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Agronomy having previously obtained an Ordinary National Diploma in Agriculture from the College of Agriculture, Obubra.

“He joined the services of his alma mater, the University of Uyo as a Graduate Assistant on November 6, 1992 and rose through the ranks to secure a Full Chair as Professor in the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture.

“A member of several learned and professional body which include Crop Science Society of Nigeria (CSSN), Farm Management Association of Nigeria (FMAN), Nigerian Rural Sociological Association (NRSA) and Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN) among others.

He is the first alumnus of the University of Uyo to be appointed Vice Chancellor of a Federal University in Nigeria, according to the statement.

Ten candidates for the post were recently screened for the post in which he was said to have emerged as one the top contenders.

The new Vice Chancellor was born on March 25, 1961. He is married with two children.
