NANS demands live coverage of FG, ASUU negotiation

Danielson Akpan, president of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) called for transparency in the ongoing negotiation between Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Akpan who gave the charge during the opening of the negotiation held at the instance of Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment in Abuja, harped on the need for the negotiation to be covered live by Nigerian media.
The meeting was attended by Ayuba Wabba, NLC President; Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, among other National Executive Council of ASUU.
The NANS President who expressed displeasure over the recurring strike actions which crippled academic session in all the public universities, underscored the need for timely resolution of the crisis in the interest of the nation.

While assuring the NANS delegation of peaceful resolution of the crisis, Chris Ngige, noted that the technical session meeting agreed on by the parties became necessary, just as he urged the student community to repose confidence in the parties.

The Minister assured that the negotiation was aimed at boosting educational standard of Nigerian universities among comity of nations.
“Everybody is desirous to get you back to school. We will have you a the back of our minds. Even the ASUU members are parents.
“Whether your people are open or abroad we want to get our universities open and up to standard.
“So that you can take Nigerian university certificates to anywhere and work,” he noted.
