Minister targets stronger science, tech studies with ₦700m chemistry labs in UniJos

Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology on Wednesday commissioned chemistry laboratories renovated by the National Office For Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) at the University of Jos, at the cost of 700 million Naira.

Performing the ceremony at the University campus in Jos, the Minister emphasized the need for Tertiary institutions across the country and research institutes to have equipped and functional laboratories.

Represented by Obiageli Amadiobi, the Director General (NOTAP), the Minister called for more of such collaboration towards upgrading and equipping laboratories, as a means of boosting science and technology.

In his speech, Tanko Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor of the University said the upgrade of the laboratories was a welcomed development.

Ishaya said the upgraded facilities shall help both students and lecturers in carrying out researches for innovations and human development.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology for honoring the University through the national office for technology acquisition and promotion/PZ Cussions Nigeria Plc.

According to the VC, the institution has signed series of MoU’s with several organizations aimed at upgrading other facilities of the University for the betterment of humanity.

Earlier in an address, Dimitri’s Kostianis, the Chief Executive Officer, PZ Cussions Nigeria PLC whose company Jointly carried out the renovations of the Chemistry laboratories, informed that University of Jos is the 8th, and the first in the north central states whose University’s laboratories have been upgraded, the rest are spread across the six geopolitical zones.
