Lions Club donates hand-washing basin, sanitizers to school

As part of effort aimed at improving hygiene of pupils, members of Ikeja Metro Lions Club has donated hand-washing and sanitizers to pupils of Gbagada Primary school, Lagos.

Speaking at the commissioning, President of the club, Lion Evelyn Agbonifo Fashakin noted that the theme of this year is kindness and diversity.”

According to her, our founder would say, “alone we can do so little, together we can do so much more. Lions identify a need and we quickly address it. When there is a need, there is always a lion. Our mission is to serve. Every second, every minute, Lions roll up their sleeves. Through our members we donate, we also do fundraising .”

In her words: “It is not because we have so much, but by virtue of our tradition, we love touching people’s lives and putting smiles on their faces,” Fashakin said.

In a chat with Journalists, District Governor of 404B, Lion Ademola Adesoye stated that “What we do is total service to the people. We have celebrated hand-washing Day in October but we couldn’t commission this project because of some others before it.”

The idea behind the handwashing project “is that we cultivate the habit of washing our hands often to prevent contagious disease.”

In the same vein, Cabinet Treasurer, Lion Tolulope Senbanjo described the project as a landmark in the activities of Lions Club International particularly District 404B to commemorate the hand-washing Day in Nigeria.

“I am sure the pupils would appreciate when they start using the facilities,” Senbanjo said. A pupil of the beneficial school, Dimeji Oladokun expressed appreciation to the club for choosing the school to carry out the projects and promised that the projects would be maintained.
