Lagos state commits to inventions development for next-generation leaders

The commissioner of education Lagos State, Folashade Adefisayo says the government is committed to create more developmental and invention programmes to prepare students for a greater future.

Adefisayo observes that such developmental programmes will not only encourage students to be more productive, it will help empower them with tools to redirect their minds from premarital sex to an option of developing innate skills and talents through scientific inventions of economic value.

 Adefisayo while speaking  at the Lagos Schools Invention Platform “Lagos SIP”, Season I1, stated that the SIP initiative, introduced in 2007 and formerly referred to as Jamfeast, was designed to redirect the minds of students from immoral escapades towards invention and entrepreneurship for self- discovery and future economic independence.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Abosede Adelaja, stressed that the Lagos State Government, in line with the THEMES Agenda, is placing more emphasis on invention and entertainment to discover hidden talents in our youths adding that Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is determined to assist them achieve their full potentials.

Adefisayo further says the State Government will continue to raise the bar with measures put in place for the continuous success of the Lagos SIP, calling on Stakeholders and Corporate Organisations to partner with the State Government in promoting inventions of these students globally.

 Adeyemi Adebayo, Director, Private Education and Special Programmes, in his welcome address, opines that this strategy, SIP,  in the last one decade have proven to be effective and many of the inventions exhibited  by the students over the years have won the State laurels at National and International Competitions.

Adebayo noted that most of the student-inventors have graduated in various fields of study while others are excelling and have distinguished themselves in entrepreneurship and various self- sustaining vocations.

“Many have also become employers of labour rather than being employed or job seeking” Adebayo added.

Adebayo urged the students to be focused and shun all vices, adding that in all challenges, there are opportunities and the time to brace up is now.
