‎Victorious students from the Korea-Nigeria quiz competition 2017 edition have urged other embassies in Nigeria to support initiatives that ensures young Nigerian students live and fulfill their dreams of better education through scholarship supports.
The Korea-Nigerian quiz was organised by cultural centr‎e of the Korean Embassy in Nigeria. It was aimed at ensuring Nigerian students have better understanding of both the Nigerian and Korean nation.
Favour Ugwebu of Federal Goverment Secondary School Nyanya, whose school took the second position slot told newsmen that, “Although it provides foreign scholarship to our students, it also serves as motivation for our students to excel in their West African Examinations (WAEC).”
One of the finalists, Onyinyechi  from the School of the Gifted Gwagwalada, which emerged overall winner,  said that besides love for the Korean Culture, she and her counterpart were continuously encouraged and pushed to the limit by their teacher who believed they would emerge winners of the competition.
“I really love Korean culture, their movies and documentary. This competition gave me more encouragement and the fact that I could study them gave me more determination. I believe I could achieve my dreams of further studies in Korea through this competition”
The Director Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria, KCCN, Han Sungrae, said the quiz competition was introduced in 2010 in order to increase the intellectual capacity of students especially in the areas of history, culture and general values, in addition to forging a stronger relationship between Nigeria and Korea.
“This quiz competition helps Nigerian students to know more about Korea and Nigeria. It also serves as an opportunity for both countries to relate better as the platform provide students an ample opportunity to study in Universities in Korea in the nearest  future.”
Also speaking,the Head of Division Co-Curricula of the FCT Secondary Education Board,  Victoria Gerorge, Nigeria has benefitted from the annually quiz competition which provides winners an opportunity to study any course of their choice in Korean universities.
The Chief Education Officer and Quiz Master,  Yakubu Ibrahim, said the finalists were not selected based on the area councils, but emerged due to points scored as the competition progressed in stages.
Apart from School of the Gifted Gwagwalada, other participants were from Government Secondary Schools in Gwagwalada, Dei-Dei, Karu, Nyanya and Pegi.
