Kano, FG invest N5.3 bn in development of public education sector

KANSIEC votes N2.3bn for printing of election materials ahead of Local Council Poll

The Kano State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government, has invested the sum of N5.3 billion in the development of primary schools in Kano state.

The money is to be used in the renovation and provision of furniture, and other learning materials in the schools across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, made this disclosure while flagging off the distribution of the instructions materials provided by the government for public primary schools, on Tuesday in Kano.

Ganduje explained that his administration provided the sum of N1.5 billion as counterpart funding under the Government initiated support program for public schools, while, the Federal Government also gave a balance of N1.5 billion in the 2019 academic year.

He also disclosed that in the 2020 academic year, the sum of N1.5 billion was also provided by his administration, while, the FG counterpart funding is still being awaited.

In the same vein, the governor stated that his administration provided N20 million to each of the Primary Schools Educational Development Committees, constituted in each of the 44 LGAs in the state for the purpose of creating a conducive environment for learning.

Commenting on the measures put in place by his administration to integrate the Almajiri education system in the conventional educational system, the governor said trained teachers are being provided for the schools.

He revealed that the measures are geared at ensuring the full implementation of the free education policy of the state government.
Governor Ganduje used the occasion to call on all parents in the state to take advantage of the free education which the state is offering and enroll the children in school.

He also appealed to members of the education committees in each of the LGAs to encourage well to do individuals in their communities to complement the state government in the area of educational development.
